The town is famous for its coastline, and with 7 miles of golden sand and sparkling sea, it's not difficult to see why. As well as offering some wonderful vantage points with breathtaking views, its 'Jurassic Coast' provides a complete geological record of the Jurassic period and a rich fossil record.

In 2007, its seafront won four prestigious blue flag awards for its cleanliness and the care that goes into maintaining it. Why not take a trip along the beach front aboard the land train or for a more exhilarating experience, ride the shockwave, a 500 HP jet boat which seats up to 12 people.

The town also has some award winning Central Gardens which lead down to the valley of the River Bourne, through the centre of the town to the sea. Bournemouth is also surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. Be sure to visit the stunning Victorian building that is St Peters Church, which was constructed between 1844 and 1879, and has a host of famous connections including, Sir Dan Goddfrey, William Ewart Gladstone, and General Richard Clement Moody.

Dorset is ideal for ramblers and walkers too and there are always organised, public themed walks or even treasure hunts for you to take part in. A day out, recommended by the Bournemouth tourist board, is 'Walk and Waves', combining a guided walk with a Dorset Belles boat trip with a delicious Chinese buffet.

Bournemouth offers amazingly diverse range of accommodation, ranging from cosy bed and breakfast establishments to first class guest houses and hotels. Here we profile a selection of the very best.
